QRD SPARK N5 Update Mode Recovery & Firmware Update Guide

If your QRD SPARK N5 controller will not power on after a firmware update, or the firmware program does not show the UPDATE button when the controller is connected to a PC, the controller may not have a hardware failure.

In some cases, an interrupted or incomplete firmware update can leave the QRD SPARK N5 temporarily in firmware update mode.

Common Symptoms

You may see one or more of the following:

• The controller does not power on with the Q / HOME button.
• No LED lights appear.
• The controller appears to have no battery power.
• Windows detects a USB connection, but the firmware program does not show UPDATE.
• The firmware update cannot be started again.
• The controller only responds when connected by USB.
• The controller worked before the firmware update but became unresponsive afterward.

 

Scenario 1: Controller Has No LED and UPDATE Does Not Appear

If the controller became unresponsive after a failed firmware update and the UPDATE button no longer appears, use the following QRD technical-support recovery procedure.

This is not the same as a normal factory reset. It is intended only for post-update recovery when the firmware tool cannot detect the controller normally.

Update Mode Recovery Procedure

1. Open the QRD SPARK N5 latest version firmware program on a Windows PC.
2. Connect the controller directly to the PC using a USB data cable.
3. Keep the controller connected by USB.
4. Press and hold the Triangle button.
5. While continuing to hold Triangle, locate the rear RESET pinhole.
6. Press and hold the RESET button for approximately 3 seconds.
7. Release RESET, but continue holding Triangle.
8. Watch the firmware program.
9. When UPDATE appears, release Triangle.
10. Click UPDATE and wait for the firmware process to finish.

Do not release Triangle too early. The key timing is:

• USB connected -> Hold Triangle -> Press RESET for 3 seconds -> Keep holding Triangle -> Wait for UPDATE -> Release Triangle -> Click UPDATE

 

Scenario 2: Update Completes, But Controller Only Works With USB

If the firmware update completes successfully but the controller only works while connected by USB, the battery may be too low.

Do not immediately repeat the firmware update.

Recommended steps:

1. Disconnect from the firmware program normally.
2. Connect the controller to a stable 5V/1A USB charger or PC USB port.
3. Charge continuously for 2-3 hours.
4. Disconnect the USB cable.
5. Press and hold Q / HOME for about 5 seconds.

If the controller powers on normally, recovery is complete.

Final Reminder

If your QRD SPARK N5 stopped powering on immediately after a firmware update, do not assume it is permanently damaged.

First check whether it is stuck in firmware update mode. For the most common update-mode recognition failure, use:

• Open firmware program -> Connect USB -> Hold Triangle -> Press RESET for 3 seconds -> Keep holding Triangle -> Wait for UPDATE -> Release Triangle -> Click UPDATE

If the update completes but the controller only works while connected by USB, charge it for 2-3 hours using a standard 5V/1A power source or PC USB port before testing again.
